SEO Terminology - The complicated stuff made easy

So, whenever we talk about ranking in Google we talk about ‘keywords’ or ‘keyphrases’. These are the words or phrases that Internet users type into the search box of a search engine, like Google, to find a website that matches what they are looking for. It’s really important to know what these are because if you can rank your website for these keywords then you can drive targeted traffic to your business for free. Whenever you’re thinking about these keywords, it’s very important to put some time and through into researching keywords.

There are some great free tools to use such as Google Keyword Planner. You simply have to sign up to a free Google adwords account to use this. Or you can use Wordtracker – which does have a cost per month but it offers a free 7 day trial if you want to check that out. These tools are great to get you started in researching keywords that are relevant to your business, because funnily enough what you and I guess people search for, often isn’t what they actually type into Google at all. Some people type in some crazy stuff, but it’s good to know what that is. So it’s important to do some research, find out what the most popular keywords and keyphrases are and then you can create a simple plan of action to implement these keywords on your website. Taking the time to really think about the words people will be typing into Google is definitely an investment worth making. There are great tools you can use online, and these can really help you to get started and thinking about ways to use targeted keywords to get qualified leads to your website.

So, now we’ve covered some of the basics of SEO I’m going to show you how to use one of the most popular WordPress SEO plugins called Yoast. In order to install Yoast, you will simply see the ‘Plugins’ option listed on the left hand side of your wordpress dashboard. You simply have to search for SEO by Yoast and install it and you’ll be ready to go.
